Description:
Engraved Colt 1851 Navy, serial # 18624. Gustave Young engraved and due to the high level of quality, no doubt, by his hand --not an apprentiace. Condition is as followows;: Barrel-- Retains 40 to 50% overall blue. Strong in the engraved area of the barrel and under (above loading lever) Thin on the barrel flats between engraving and end of barrel. Cylinder-- No blue but very good scene, thin in one spot. All locking pins present but mostly flatened. Frame-- Completely engraved and retains 20 to 30% early smokey casehardening and as usual, masked by the engraving. Trigger guard-- retains 99% Silver. Backstrap-- retains 85 to 90% Silver, missing only on the high parts of the engraving. Grips--Wonderful smooth, mellow, and numbered to the gun in the expected location of the channel. Early case with no material on walls (I have several cases like this in my collection} and a crack in the lid - upper right.
