Peabody Martini, of Providence Rhode Island, in 45-70
This is actually a pretty scarce rifle. It is a Peabody-Martini patent that was made by the Providence Tool Company, Providence Rhode Island - as part of a military contract to Turkey. It has the Turkish acceptance mark on one side and the makers name and address on the other side. At some point it was brought back to the US and it was sporterized in the style that Providence Tool did back in the day. I don’t know if they did the work on this sporter, but it was very well done. Its original bore was relined into a 45-70. The rifle shoots quite well. I have put 12 rounds through one hole at 100 yards with it using a 535 grain bullet and Black Hills 209 powder. I also used an MVA 2000 series scope. The MVA scope blocks will remain on the rifle. The scope has migrated to another rifle, but you can contact MVA and buy your own. MVA makes great optics and I have a couple of their scopes. Photos are accurate. Must ship to an FFL, cards add 3%. You will pay the actual shipping to your dealer. (The only reason I am selling it is that I want to buy a Ballard from my gunsmith.)
