***SOLD*** Springfield Model 1884 "Trapdoor" rifle, chambered in .45-70 Government and dated to 1887/1888. The stock cartouche is dated 1887, and the serial number dates to 1888. This rifle is a breathtaking example of the iconic US military Trapdoor service rifle, and features the unmistakable trapdoor action mechanism, a full length walnut stock, and areas of it's original blued finish still poking through in areas. The stock is in overall excellent condition, with only small chips in areas, and no major damage or cracks. The rifle has some areas of finis hwear, patina, and scuffs from years of handling and storage, however it remains in excellent condition considering its age, with a solid action, tight lock, and a brilliant bore with only a few small dark spots in areas, as shown.
