Description:
At the beginning of World War 2, Great Britain once again found itself going to war while their arsenal was short on pistols. Since they could not produce the Enfield revolver fast enough, Great Britain once again turned to Smith & Wesson to supplement their arsenal with. After WWI, Great Britain replaced the .455 Webley Mark II cartridge with the .38/200 round, which was essentially the .38 S&W round with a 200 grain bullet instead of the usual 145/146 grain. Thus, the model is often referred to as the K200 and sometimes as the K38/200. Including the later V and SV sub-series revolvers, about 568,204 K200s were manufactured between 1940 and 1945. According to the serial number and the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition, this K200 was likely manufactured between 1940 and 1942. The cylinder length is roughly 1.56 inches. The finish is a bright blue which suggests a refinish at some point, though the majority of the markings on the revolver are in good shape. The bottom of the grip is stamped Australia. The right hand side of the barrel has the usual “NP”, ‘.38”’, and “3.5 tons” markings. The bottom edge of the left-hand grip has a small chip in it, while the upper-front edge of the right-hand grip has a smaller chip in the wood surface. There is a small spot of pitting on the left hand side of the barrel. The muzzle and backstrap both exhibit finish loss. There are some light scratches on the side plate. The cylinder accepts .38 Special cartridges suggesting the cylinder has been modified, however, only the older .38 S&W round should still be fired in the cylinder as .38 Special ammo would bulge at the base to fit the wider chamber of the .38 S&W. To clarify, the revolver was test fired with the correct .38 S&W ammunition to prove that it is still safe to fire. Internally, the mechanisms are tight, and the revolver has a relatively heavy double-action pull. It has a light single-action pull. The bore is in excellent condition. There are minimal powders burns at the front of the cylinder. The K200 retains its lanyard swivel on the bottom of the grip.
