Description:
"A very nice US Cavalry Saber of the pattern of 1860, but dated 1858. This is one of a total of 1899 of these sabers produced and delivered by Ames that year. It has the earlier style Ames scroll on one side of the ricasso, and US over JH over 1858 on the other side. JH is also stamped on the pommel. The grip is complete with original leather and wire, and the guard has no bends. The blade is stained dark, with a rounded point. The scabbard is very good, with a dark patina all over, and I wonder if it was originally browned. Dimensions: The blade is 34.25 inches long. The sword overall in its scabbard is 42.5 inches. Very good and solid. There is minor wear to the grip leather. The blade is stained in spots over most of its length, and the tip is slightly rounded, and has some minor rust. The marks are very good. The Ames scroll is a little hard to read, but is visible, and the US/JH/1858 re very clear and sharp.
