Not an import! No import stamps! Brought in by a young man who said it belonged to his grandpa, supposedly brought back after "the war". I am not an expert, but I have checked this out using Larson's Comprehensive Guide to the M1 Carbine, and it all looks right. This is a "4th Block production" according to the book. HI marked stock with an RA-P and an A at the base of the pistol grip and a serriffed P proof stamp. 2 rivet handguard marked S-HB. K.I. magazine, also correct for an Inland. Type 1 barrel band, still used in the serial range of 6.3 mil. S marked rear flip sight, correct for Inland. Inland marked trigger housing. N stamp on front sight base, also Inland. Barrel dated 8-44, Inland MFG DIV. Minty bore. I-I marked hammer, also correct. SI marked mag catch- correct. PI stamped in well of slide- correct. Very late type 3 round bolt made by Underwood. This was prob replaced when the gun went thru a rebuild as indicated by the stock stampings. I have shot this gun, and she runs like a dream and easily shoots bullseyes offhand at 15 yards as is.
