Description:
HIGH CONDITION SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER 1885 HIGHWALL RIFLE IN .32 WCF CALIBER WITH 28" #2 WEIGHT BARREL, #43XXX, MADE 1890, WITH FACTORY LETTER. The small .32 WCF (.32 Winchester Center Fire or .32-20) was standardized using a Lowall action. Further it was standard for it to use a #1 barrel. When this size barrel was used for small cartridges like the .22 WCF, .25-20 etc., the receiver ring on top of the action was milled with a "flute" in it as the barrel was too thin to see the open sights. The flute in the ring allowed for full viewing of the barrel sights. The #2 is considered a "heavy" barrel for the .32-20 and the receiver does not have the flute. The factory letter confirms this. The receiver shows even light, but full, case color on both sides with brighter colors on the receiver ring and in all the protected areas around the hammer etc. The barrel shows deep and fairly bright blue overall and is fitted with a Lyman two-leaf folding rear sight and a Beach folding globe front sight. There is also a Lyman tang sight mounted correctly. the stock and forearm  with correct ebony inlay in the tip are excellent with very tight wood to metal fit and show minimal handling. The bore is bright, sharp and excellent! The letter indicates that the serial number was applied on November 15, 1890 and that it was received in the warehouse on February 10, 1891 and shipped the same day. Remarkable condition for a special order 130 year old Highwall!
