Description:
NUMRICH ARMS "HOPKINS & ALLEN" .45 CALIBER PERCUSSION UNDER-HAMMER CARBINE. I'm not sure when these fine little rifles were made, but probably back in the 1970s-1980s. The barrel is marked on top "NUMRICH ARMS" over "HOPKINS & ALLEN" over "W. HURLEY, N. Y." This one is in excellent condition and appears to be little if at all used. The 20" octagon barrel is fitted with a marbles buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar paired with a globe front sight containing a post inside. The mechanism of this rifle is simplicity itself! The trigger guard acts as the hammer spring. The hammer has a strong half cock safety and once at full cock, the trigger releases it with a very light and crisp pull weight. Simple, straight grained walnut stock with wood ram rod and shotgun butt plate. The barrel measures just under an inch across the flats at the muzzle, which is nicely crowned, with the balance point ahead of the hammer and behind the rear sight. Weighs right at about 5 3/4 lbs. Loaded with round ball it should be a fun target/plinking rifle suitable for small game or loaded up with a proper bullet and backed by a stiff powder charge will equal equal the .45-70 or .45-90 and be a fine woods big game gun. It would certainly be a pleasant rifle to tote around in the woods or mountains! Under-hammer guns keep the exploding percussion cap and any blow-back away from the shooters face, which can not only be a safety hazard (especially if glasses arent't being worn in the field) as well as a flinch inducer. A lot of shooting for a  low price!
