Description:
This is a beautiful 100% original and unfired 2" inch nickel-plated Smith & Wesson Model 34-1 .22 Caliber "Kit Gun" complete with the original box and everything it originally shipped from the factory with.  This Model 34-1 is serial number M199376, making it's date of manufacture 1982.  The S&W Model 34 Kit Gun was first introduced in 1953 and remained in production for 38 years until 1991, during which time there were 2 engineering changes moving from the Model 34 to the 34-2.  Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the J-frame based DA/SA Model 34 revolver featured a 6-shot fluted cylinder, a case-colored hammer and trigger, factory adjustable target-type sights, and checkered Walnut grips standard.  Options for the Model 34 included two barrels lengths of 2" or 4" inches, a square or round-butt frame, and a gloss-blue or nickel-plated factory finish.  The Model 34 or "Kit Gun" was a great commercial success for Smith & Wesson, popular with young and old shooters, plinkers, hunters, target shooters, and everyone in-between.  The relatively small-size of the revolver combined with it's superb fit, finish, reliability, and accuracy were all major factors in it's success.  As the Model 34 Kit Gun was chambered in the inexpensive, plentiful, and very popular .22 LR cartridge, most examples encountered today have been fired a lot, making minty and complete examples like this one very sought-after.  This 2" inch nickel Model 34-1 is in superb condition inside and out.  The factory nickel finish is bright, clean, and beautiful, rating 98%+.  The only deductions from the finish come from just a hint of a drag-line around the cylinder (neither all the way around the cylinder nor visible except at certain angles), some extremely minor handling/storage marks only visible under super-close inspection, and a minor factory mistake consisting of small spot just above the trigger on the left side of the frame just in front of the protrusion that holds the cylinder in place when swung-out where the factory did not polish the steel smooth before applying the nickel plating.  As you can see from the pictures, none of these "deductions" detract from the like-new overall look of the revolver.  The factory blue finish on the rear sight and cylinder star is in excellent condition rating 99%, as-are the handsome and bright factory case-colors on the trigger and hammer.  All of the factory markings on this Smith are crisp and perfect, and all of the sideplate screws appear unturned with perfect slots.  The sideplate shows ZERO evidence of ever having been removed since leaving the factory.  The bore in the 2" inch barrel is mirror-bright and pristine, free from any pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The 6 chambers of the cylinder are also pristine and free from any wear or damage.  While there is no way to know with 100% certainty that this Kit Gun is unfired since being test fired at the factory, there are zero indications that it has been.  The front face of the cylinder shows no evidence of having been fired nor cleaned/polished, and the forcing cone of the barrel is spotless and free from any scorching, carbon residue, or lead fouling.  The cylinder star lugs show no mechanical wear and still have 98 to 99% of the original blue intact; this is typically the first spot to show finish wear when the gun is used other than the cylinder face and forcing cone.  The factory grips on this Model 34-1 are just as pristine and free from wear as the rest of the gun, with both grip panels free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or soiling/oil staining.  The checkering is still crisp on both sides and the S&W medallions are in superb condition.  As-is correct for this time period, the right grip panel is NOT numbered to the gun as this practice was discontinued in the mid to late 1970's.  When we removed the grips to inspect the condition of the frame, mainspring, and rear of grips it was obvious that this was the first time they had ever been removed.  The action on this Model 34-1 is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time" no matter how fast or slow the action is worked, whether in double-action or single-action.  All of the other controls are in like-new perfect working order as well, including the rear sight adjustments.  This Smith will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 39 years ago.  As mentioned before, this Model 34-1 comes complete with everything it originally left the factory with, including the original box (with BOTH end-labels intact), the owner's manual, the warranty card (blank), assorted pamphlets, the anti-rust shipping paper, the cardboard insert, the plastic triggerguard insert, and the factory tool/cleaning kit which is still sealed in it's factory clear plastic bag.  They just don't get any more complete than this.  If you have been looking for one of the best investment-grade 2" nickel S&W Model 34's out there, here it is!  It would be extremely hard to upgrade from this example in any respect.
