The hilt is very fine, with more ornately cast details on the quillon in particular, and an exceptionally handsome grip with ultra-fine black leather and triple wire wrap. The blade is also very fine, with a larger than usual horizontal “US" on one side, and a very large flowing US flag on the other side. The other ornamentation is interesting as well in that the background is “purpled," i.e., textured throughout the etching, a feature seldom seen. The back of the blade is also etched with leaves, as well as “Iron Proof." The scabbard has a blued steel body with outstanding brass mounts with ornately cast bands and added engraving on each of the mounts. Dimensions: The blade is 31.5 inches long. The sword overall is 39.25 inches long. Overall excellent condition. The hilt and scabbard are beautiful. The quillon is slightly bent downward. The cutting edge of the blade near the point has been sharpened, and there is a rough spot about 8 inches from the point. There are a few tiny spots on the etching and at the ricasso. SOLD |
