Description:
Very SCARCE Allen & Wheelock SIDEHAMMER First Issue .32 Caliber RF REVOLVER

FIRST ISSUE Civil War Era Revolver with Walnut Grips!

Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Sidehammer First Issue Revolver, made circa 1859 in Worcester, Massachusetts. There were three variations of the Allen & Wheelock and Ethan Allen & Co. .32 Sidehammer revolver were manufactured between 1859 and 1862. Only a little more than a thousand are estimated to have been manufactured. Production was limited due to the introduction of Allen's lipfire revolvers which did not require violating the Rollin White bored through cylinder patent and also used less expensive ammunition. The most immediately eye-catching feature on this revolver is the side-mounted hammer on the right side of the gun. The features that make this distinctly a first issue are the rear cylinder axis pin and the lack of the later 1860 patent date. This example doesn’t have the cylinder scene, likely due to wear over the years.

The left side of the barrel is marked “ALLEN & WHEELOCK. WORCESTER. MASS./ALLEN’S PAT’S. SEPT. 7. NOV. 9. 1858.”

The overall condition is good. Strong and tight action. Semi-bright bore in good shape. Very good grips with below average wear. Cylinder scene remnants can still be seen. Numbers match, including the grips and grip frame! Smooth, even brown patina. Here is a nice revolver with some great aesthetics for the collection.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 4 inches.

Caliber: .32 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
