Description:
This is a truly spectacular vintage Smith and Wesson Military & Police Model revolver with a factory nickel finish, a 6" inch barrel, and custom antique bone grips.  Manufactured in 1964, this S&W has a beautiful and mirror-bright factory nickel plated finish paired with a color case-hardened trigger and hammer.   The Military & Police Model is one of the all-time classic K-frame revolver models from S&W.  Introduced in 1899, the Military & Police Model, later known as the Model 10, went thru 8 engineering changes and dozens of variations during it's production run which continues even today with the "Classic" series.   It quickly earned a reputation for being well-made, nicely sized, supremely reliable, and deadly accurate.  It was a huge commercial success, seeing service with a great many police departments across the country and across the globe in addition to widespread civilian ownership inside the United States.  Despite the large number of examples made, vintage S&W Model 10's are still coveted by both collectors and shooters alike today, with high-condition examples like this one particularly sought-after.  This M&P Model is serial number C731873 and it appears to have lived a very easy life, likely spending the vast majority of it in storage.  The factory nickel-plated finish is mirror-bright and beautiful, rating 98%.  The only deductions come from a VERY faint drag-line around the cylinder, a little marring on the front face of the cylinder, and a few tiny handling/storage marks only visible under extremely close inspection.  As you can see from the pictures provided, none of these deductions detract from the pristine overall look of the gun.  All of the factory markings on this Smith are crisp and clear, and all of the screws in the action have nice clean heads to them.  The factory case colors on the hammer and trigger still show some nice bright color and 100% coverage, showing just a touch of fading from exposure on the unprotected areas.  The bore in this revolver is pristine and mirror-bright, free from any pitting, erosion, bulges, or imperfections of any kind.  The rifling still looks brand new from one end to the other, with sharp lands and grooves throughout.  The 6 chambers of the cylinder are equally as pristine.  The custom antique bone grips on this gun are in excellent condition as well, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The pair is a perfect match to each other in every way, and they look particularly good combined with the nickel finish.  They were nicely fit to the gun and they are both tight to the frame with no wiggle, despite being much older than the gun itself.  The action on this Model 10-5 is extremely smooth, slick, and precise.  It is in perfect "time" no matter how the gun is operated, single or double-action, fast or slow.  You really have to feel it in person to appreciate how well it was hand-fit and tuned by the gunsmith that built it.  All of the controls on this Smith are in perfect working order including the trigger which is quite good, particularly in single-action operation.  If you have been looking for a "collector grade" vintage MIlitary & Police Model S&W for your collection that will really get some attention, this classy 1964-production model is it!
