Description:
HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON 410-44 Cal. DOUBLE BARREL Side x Side Shotgun C&R

Small Frame MODEL 1915 Top Break

Here we present a C&R Harrington & Richardson Model 1915 Double Barrel Side by Side 410-44 Shotgun made circa 1916 to 1921 in Worcester, Massachusetts. This example is a top break lever action three piece takedown gun. H&R marked this shotgun “410-44 CAL” only between the dates of 1916 to 1921. The “44” marking is not for a .44 caliber round, but rather a .44 caliber shot cartridge. It is NOT designed to fire a modern .44 caliber round through it.

The .410 shotgun, often touted as a “beginner’s gun” because of its attractiveness to young shooters, is usually lightweight with thin patterns and doesn’t deliver a big charge which could potentially scare away a young shooter. The origins of the .410 go back to the end of the nineteenth century, when farmers shot birds and small game to feed their families. There wasn’t any wing shooting involved here, just pop them wherever they were and take ‘em home for mom to cook.

Just to clarify a point that is confusing, .410 is a caliber, not a gauge. Most, if not all, ammunition companies print their boxes as .410 Gauge, but that’s actually a misnomer. If the .410 was rebranded as a gauge, it would be a 67 Gauge.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. Both bores are bright and smooth. Just above the trigger guard the stock has pulled away from the frame. The buttstock and forend are solid. Here is a unique shotgun from H & R!
