J. W. LAIRD LONDONGUNMAKER 32 COLT/320 ENGLISH ROOK RIFLE SALE PENDING
This is a very nice hi grade English Rook Rifle or Rabbit gun. The condition is very nice for a gun that was built between 1889 & 1896, still has a lot of bluing and the barrel is 90% +and the stock and forend still have strong checkering. The stock has a beautifully engraved steel butt plate and really nice steel to wood fitting the forend has a ebony tip, jones underlever and 50, 100 & 150 yard safari sights.. J.W. Laird was originally a Birmingham gunmaker at 10 Steelhouse Lane in 1848. It seems he, or more likely his son, moved to London, setting up at 6 Bishopsgate Without in 1889. The company was short-lived and is not recorded after 1896. It is a 320 revolver cartridge wich in most guns is interchangeable with the 32 Colt short.
