Here is a fine early back-action hammergun by Boss, built circa 1870. The 31" nitro re-proved barrels have beautiful Damascus pattern. The chambers are 2 1/2" and both bores are choked true cylinder. The concave rib is engraved: BOSS & CO. 75 St. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. The gun locks up tight with its Jones under-lever. The action and locks have excellent bold foliate engraving. The hammers are rebounding, and the locks function crisply. The keyed fore-end has a horn finial. The figured stock measures 1 1/2" x 2 3/16" x 14 1/4" over a smooth steel butt-plate. There is slight cast off. The weight is 6 lbs 12 oz. A very attractive gun from a great maker.
