Description:
SALE PENDING. Nice little Colt New Line 22 Caliber Pocket Revolver with the desirable 2-tone Nickel and Blued finish.  2 1/4" Semi-Round Barrel with nice etched panel, 7 shot cylinder, and highly finished Rosewood Grips.  Serial number is in the 15,000 range and made in 1876. The barrel and cylinder chambers exhibit tiny English Proofs from the London Proof House so this was almost certainly sold by the Colt London Agency.  New Lines were very popular in Great Britain in the 1870's and one of the nice things about them is that they tend to show very little use and were often well looed after.  This particular revolver is no exception as it still has original fire blue on the screws, the knurled cylinder pin, and even on the cylinder release and front face of the trigger...areas that would quickly wear bright when used.  It most likely spent most of its life in a desk drawer "at the ready" where it occasionally bumped into something.  The grips have 99% of their original varnish with a few light marks and small dings.  The mirror polished barrel and cylinder still show 60% of their original charcoal blued finish with the balance flaked off...which was common.  Colt polished these to a mirror finish before placing them in a carbon carbon-rich environment at 600+ degrees to obtain this blue.  The result was a mesmerizing blued finish which looked like wet dark blue ink.  Unfortunately, it was also very fragile and had a tendency to flake off but you still get some glimpses of what it once looked like on this revolver.  Oftentimes, when a collector sees a high condition Colt from this era with a high level of original charcoal blue remaining, it will ruin his life because that's all he'll want to buy from then on.  Unfortunately, it's not only hard to find but can also be quite EXPENSIVE!  So this little New Line has some of that great finish but not enough to be in that high condition category at the 1500-2200 dollar range.  The nickel is fantastic with 99% remaining with a few light blemishes...from sliding around in that darned desk drawer back in London.  Action works perfectly and the bore is strong with nice deep rifling that still shines.  Original German silver fron sight.  Super nice markings with "22 CAL" on left side of frame, etched panel clearly reads COLT NEW 22 in its oval pattern with original blue still on the lettering.  Crisp Hartford barrel address with the tiniest Colt Patents on the bottom of the barrel I've ever seen.  You need a glass to see them they're so small but crisp.  Nice little 1870's Centennial era Colt with some condition.  Antique, NO FFL required.  No international sales or sales to NJ, NY, DC, NYC, Chicago, or HI.  $15.00 shipping in lower US 48.
