Description:
The Browning Superposed was the first over and under shotgun design to be produced. Considered revolutionary for its time, the Superposed introduced a wide variety of innovations including the single select trigger and over-under design. Manufactured in 1954, this rare Browning Superposed "Fight Cocks" Grade III has been masterfully engraved by Felix Funken. Mr. Funken was the Chief Engraver for FN/Browning till his retirement in 1960 and his work is universally recognized as the most collectible of the FN Master Engravers. This particular Superposed is in excellent condition and features 28" barrels (Top choked "Full"/Bottom choked "Modified"), ventilated rib, blued finish on all metal parts, grade III checkered walnut forend, grade III checkered walnut stock, single select trigger, ejectors, and engraved receiver. The original bluing on the barrels is in very great condition with slight wear marks around the muzzle and various handling marks along both sides of the barrel and rib. The engraved receiver is in equally as great condition with various light handling marks and patina. The beautiful engraving is in excellent condition with crisp lines and no dings/dents. The right side of the receiver is engraved with a scene of pheasants in a field, the left side of the receiver is engraved with a scene of two pheasants fighting, and the bottom of the receiver is engraved with a dog with a pheasant in its mouth. Both the right and left side of the receiver have been signed "Funken" which indicates that the engraving was done by Mr. Felix Funken. The checkered stock and forend retain their original gloss finish but the stock does show very light signs of finish checking. The forend is in excellent condition with the exception of some various handling marks/scratches and one minuscule dent on the left side. The stock is in equally excellent condition with the exception of light handling marks/scratches and one quarter of an inch crack at the rear of the top tang. The crack does not seem to subtract from the integrity of the stock nor does it spread when the stock is flexed. The stock was originally flat on top and the comb was added by the previous owner. The cut-in comb was added by a competent gunsmith and looks factory unless under the right light. Also, the stock has been fitted with an aftermarket Pachmayr White Line recoil pad which was done at the same time as the comb. The checkering on both the forend and stock is still in superb condition with minimum wear. The bore and chambers of both barrels are in excellent condition.  Although it show slight amounts of once-removed surface rust, the face of the chambers is also in very great condition and shows very minimum signs of wear. The breechface is in equally as great condition with minimum signs of wear and shooting. All the mechanical aspects of this shotgun function 100% including the ejectors, safety/barrel selector, and trigger. This Superposed locks up extremely tight and has no hinge play or wobble. Don't miss out on this rare Superposed! Sorry, no box or paperwork.
