Description:
SOLD.  Nice example of a Colt 1860 .44 Caliber Army Revolver produced in 1863 for the Union Army during the Civil War.  Still has some original blue and case colors.  Serial Number is in the 106,000 range with 100% All Matching Numbers throughout.  US Inspector Cartouches on both sides of the grips with various sub-inspector letters found on numerous components.  Standard 8" Barrel, 6 shot cylinder with roll engraved scene, 3 screw frame.  COLT'S PATENT stamped on left side of the frame and cylinder.  Nice New York Barrel address that is fully legible with original unaltered front sight.  Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Very Good Plus to Fine Overall.  It was most definitely kept holster where the tannins in the leather took off the blue on the high spots...but it wasn't jostled like up and down like a cavalryman as the muzzle of the barrel and leading edges of the cylinder are still square.  Perhaps it was carried by an officer as it doesn't show nearly the amount of wear that most 1860 Armies exhibit.  The barrel has 20% original blue remaining with good streaks of blue down in the flutes on the left and right profiles, around the wedge, loading lever catch, front sight, and underneath the barrel above the loading lever.   The balance of the metal has turned to a  nice smooth grey patina with no pitting or corrosion.  The Cylinder has a ring of original blue down in the rebate with 98% good discernable roll engraved cylinder scene.  The safety pins on the lugs between the chambers are a bit mashed but have never been worn off and there is no hammer indentations on the edges of the lugs.  Backstrap shows hints of blue around the hammer, a tiny bit on the ears and down in the slot for the shoulder stock.  The frame has traces of case colors..mostly silvered faint shadows that tell you where they once were. There are some decent subdued colors in the capping channel and on back of the recoil shield.  The loading lever still retains about 30% good discernable colors at the fulcrum while the hammer has faded to silver...but really nice profiles with no pitting or corrosion from percussion cap residue.  This Colt certainly saw some action but it wasn't used a lot or abused.  The action is crisp and the bore is Very Good.  The barrel to frame fits tightly with no wiggle of play while the cylinder indexes properly.  Wood Grips are original to the gun with no cracks, a small bruise on the right panel and some light handling wear but remain Fine overall with two good cartouches.  Best of all, the base of the grip somehow survived nearly 160 years without having been used as a hammer...not even once.  No nicks or dings in the wood or the backstrap. You can even read the sub-inspector initial on the bottom of the grip which is usually all but obliterated.  If you're looking for a nice example of a military Colt that saw use in the Civil War, this one has a nice combination of condition and wear.  Antique, Pre-1898 Percussion. No FFL required.  Buyer must be at least 21 years of age.  No sales to NYC, Chicago, NJ, or DC.  Sorry, no international sales.  $35.00 shipping in lower US 48.
