Manufactured from 1963 to 1969, the Marlin Model 62 Levermatic differed from the traditional lever-action rifles by employing a cam-and-roller system giving it an exceptionally smooth and short lever motion to load a new cartridge. This particular rare Model 62 Levermatic was manufactured during the first year of production in 1963 and is chambered in .256 Winchester Magnum. The .256 Winchester Magnum was developed by Winchester, and was produced by necking-down a .357 Magnum cartridge to .257 diameter. It was designed for shooting small game and varmints. The interesting thing about the Model 62 Levermatic is the first 4,000 produced did not have a serial number applied to them before they left the factory, and this rifle falls within the first 4,000. This particular Levermatic features a 24" barrel, 4 shot magazine, open sights, and Monte Carlo stock with ebony cap. This rifle is in 100% original condition. The blued barreled action retains almost all of its original finish minus various light handling/wear marks, scattered minuscule spots of surface rust, and light scratches along the barrel. The stock is in excellent condition and shows no signs of cracking, only various handling marks. The original Marlin butt plate is in equally as excellent condition and shows almost no signs of handling/wear. The bore of the micro-groove barrel is in superb condition with bright and sharp rifling. The bolt is in excellent condition and is slighty discolored, but would clean up relatively easy. The hood is missing from the front sight. All mechanical aspects of this rifle function 100% including the rear sight, trigger, magazine, and lever. Sorry, no box or paperwork.
