This 44-40 Colt Lightning Saddle Ring Carbine is circa 1890. The overall length is approx. 37"". The 20"" round barrel has a fair bore with rifling and firing erosion. All the metal has a smooth blue patina. The barrel is marked 44 CAL. at the breech. It has the standard carbine sights and the standard Colt and patent markings on top. The saddle ring is present. The replacement butt stock is fine with no cracks or chips and no wear. The smooth forearm, which has been lightly sanded, is very good with no cracks or chips. The action functions correctly. This is a good representative Colt Lightning saddle ring carbine in the most desirable caliber.
