The Brown Bess is the iconic British military musket of the flintlock era with a service life that stretched from the 1720s to the 1850s. It saw use not only in the British Isles and the Continent but in British colonies the world over, from Canada, to the American colonies, to the far reaches of Southeast Asia and Africa. This fusil would have been designed, at least initially, for the officer class and gentry, which were often one and the same. It is a lighter, smaller caliber musket with virtually the same aesthetic as the full-sized infantry musket. The full-sized guns were in .75 caliber while this one is in .68 caliber. The overall condition is good. This one would have been made as a flintlock, was converted to percussion, then was converted back to flintlock. Strong action. The smooth bore is in good shape. The stock is solid, though it has seen plenty of use and is missing a chip at the barrel tang. Lovely patina. There is also a “No6” marking on the top of the barrel and, of course, the Birmingham proof marks. The lock is a bit effaced but is a Ketland product and the entirety of the gun was likely their handiwork. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 40-1/4 inches. Caliber: .68 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
