Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is a minty and unfired Colt Model 1855 Root revolver in .31 caliber cap and ball made in 2003 by the Palmetto Arms Company in Italy. Bought new by the original owner, this little Root revolver has been in storage it's entire life until now. Very few companies have made a replica of the 1855 Root revolver over the years due to the original design's complexity and level of hand-fitting required. When Palmetto Arms started offering a copy in the early 2000's they were the only firm making such a gun. Offered in .31 caliber in either a 3.5" inch or 5.5" inch barrel, the Palmetto Arms Root revolver was finished in a gloss blue finish and was fitted with smooth European Walnut grips. The single-action side-hammer lock works remained an exact copy of the original and the gun featured an unfluted 5-shot cylinder, a spur-style trigger, a grooved topstrap and brass front bead sighting system, and a creeping loading lever mounted under the barrel. These little revolvers proved to be very good copies of the original, and they functioned reliably when fired. Unfortunately Palmetto Arms Co. would end up going out of business within 5 or 6 years after introducing the Root revolver, thus ending production on this neat little replica with only a relatively small number of them made. This particular example is in superb all-original and unfired condition. The factory blue is bright and beautiful, rating 98% plus with the only deductions coming from some tiny little handling marks (some of which were probably on the gun from the factory!). The bore in the 3.5" inch barrel is pristine and mirror-bright, free from any pitting or visible defects/wear. The 5 chambers of the cylinder are equally like-new, as are all 5 of the factory nipples. The smooth Walnut 1-piece grip is in excellent condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear. The action on this Root is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time" no matter how fast or slow it is cycled. The hammer still has both the half-cock and full-cock notches intact and the hammer will not drop when the trigger pulled on half-cock. The loading lever works perfectly and the trigger breaks nicely with a light pull. There is no doubt that should the new owner choose to load and fire this Colt 1855 Root replica that it will function just as well today as it did when it left the factory 18 years ago. If you have been looking for an interesting and scarce replica for your antique weapons collection this low-production Palmetto Arms Co. .31 caliber Root revolver in mint condition would be an excellent choice.
