Description:
"

The Evans Repeating Rifle Company, Mechanic Falls, ME, manufactured approx. 4,000 New Model Carbines between 1877 and 1879. Chambered for the 44 Evans 1.5"" centerfire cartridge, they had a 28-shot magazine capacity! This New Model carbine is approx. 39.5"" long. The 22"" round barrel has a good bright bore with some firing erosion. This carbine has the expected sling swivel at the butt but the forend is screw-fastened and more of a sporting rifle style. The barrel has a smooth brown patina. The action and the remainder of the metal has a gray-brown patina. The butt stock is with no cracks or chips, the expected wear, and a homemade notch on the bottom for the later style curled lever. The sporting style forend is very good with an old small chip at the tip, worn checkering, and with light wear. Based on the late style lever loop, this is probably a parts clean up carbine toward the end of production. The action functions correctly. Evans carbines are rarely seen today.
