The Stevens 311 began production in 1940 as an American workhorse bread from its Springfield Model 5000 roots. With a strong boxlock design these shotguns were meant to be used....and for decades until 1989 they were indeed. We're guessing 1940-1948 because in this era of 311's, Stevens did not utilize any serialized codes. Known for strength and reliability I would be surprised to find a single sportsman in the US who hasn't shot...if at least held a Stevens 311 at some point. They were that popular, and they were THAT common. In fact, the Stevens 311 boxlock design was so popular that Savage arms, the parent company of Stevens licensed the "Fox" shotgun production knows as A.H. Fox in 1994 to continue carrying the torch for the classic gentlemen's field gun produced in the USA. Even today, Savage manufactures the Fox Model A Grade with beautiful wood, gold triggers, engraving and a case colored receiver. You can pick one of these little beauties up for about $5K if you wish....but guess what? The simple and strong mechanics of the Stevens boxlock design are the same as this one...save the thousands of dollars in price! This PERFECT field gun comes to you in 12 gauge, 2 & 3/4" Chambers, Full & Modified Chokes, 28" barrels and a walnut stock...just like God Himself intended it to be.
