Description:
VERY RARE MODEL 53 IN .44-40 CALIBER, #6XXX, MADE 1926. One of the more scarce of the Winchester Lever models, the model 53 saw a production of only a little over 15,000 from 1924 until 1932 when it was discontinued in 1932 because of the Great Depression. The standard caliber for this model was .25-20 with very few made in .44-40. This is a fine example showing fine lightly aged barrel blue with flat top buckhorn rear sight and Marble 57L ivory bead front sight, fine blue on the forend cap, loading gate and bolt. The receiver blue has mostly flaked to gray with  some good blue in the rear protected areas and around the hammer etc. Generally excellent better than standard grade walnut in the butt stock and forearm. showing only normal light handling. Tight wood to metal fit and retains the original steel butt plate. Excellent screw heads, tight action  and a bright, sharp minty bore! Very difficult caliber and model to find.
