ANTIQUE STEVENS FAVORITE, .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER. This was the single shot rifle boys (and some girls) desperately wanted at the turn of the last century. Being more expensive than other "Boys' Rifles" lof the time like the Stevens Crack Shot, Remington No.6 or Winchester Model 1902 etc., those lucky enough to get one cherished them...and used them hard! It is difficult to find a high condition example now. You might say these little rifles were loved to death. This example was certainly used by its original owner in such a way. The action is tight with the case colors faded and worn to mostly gray. The 22" half octagon barrel shows excellent markings and good aged blue mixing brown on the round part mainly. It retains the original simple fixed notched rear sight and small blade front sight. The forend is excellent showing only light handling mrks. The butt stock has had a crack running from the upper tang around to the lower tang on the left side that has been glued/repaired at some time in the distant past. The Stevens marked butt plate is fine and not chipped or cracked. The bore is fair at best- mainly rough with traces of rifling. Re-lining the bore and a little stock work would help this one quite a bit. Tight takedown and strong springs.
