Description:
This is a beautiful all-original 1st year production Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge shotgun with a 28" inch matted rib barrel choked "Modified".  The date code on the barrel translates to October of 1950, one of the earliest Wingmasters we have ever had as this was the first year of production for any of the 870 models.  This high-condition Model 870 has obviously lived a very easy life, most likely in storage for the vast majority of it's existence.  It is in truly superb condition both inside and out.  The Remington 870 Wingmaster is one of the all-time American classic pump-action shotguns, considered by many as THE very best pump shotgun ever made regardless of nationality.   The Remington 870 first went into production in 1950 and remained in production until Remington went out of business in 2018, with dozens of variations introduced over the production run.  The Model 870 was a big success for Remington right off the bat, with the well-made and handsome shotguns quickly earning a reputation for being well-made, extremely reliable, and easy to operate.  This particular example was called the Model 870 ADL Wingmaster, a more deluxe version of the 870 AP model.  This Wingmaster features a high-polish gloss blue finish on all of the steel parts except for the bolt and shell lifter which were polished bright, a 28" inch matted top barrel with a 2.75" inch chamber and choked "Modified", an aluminum alloy triggerguard and trigger housing with a gloss black finish, and a deluxe checkered American Walnut pistol-grip stock set with a black pistol grip cap and black Remington-branded buttplate.  As you can see from the pictures, it is a beautiful all-original example.  The gloss blue factory finish is bright and clean, rating 97%.  The only deductions come from some scattered pin-prick spots on the receiver where there was some rust removed at some point.  None of these detract any appreciable amount from the exceptionally clean overall look of the gun.  The polished bolt body and shell lifter are in very good condition as well, showing only some very minor discoloration from some very minor dust-like surface rust that was removed.  All of the factory markings are razor-sharp and like-new, and the black finish on the triggerguard is beautiful rating 98%.  The bore in the 28" inch barrel is mirror-bright and pristine, free from any pitting, dents, bulges, or imperfections of any kind.  The top of the barrel is matted with ultra-fine texturing which carries over to the top of the receiver.  The factory stock set on this Wingmaster is in excellent condition, with both the forearm and buttstock completely free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, showing only a few tiny handling/storage marks.  The checkered panels are still crisp and clean, and both the pistol grip cap and buttplate are still in-place and in excellent condition.  The action on this 870 ADL Wingmaster is as smooth and precise as you will ever feel on an 870 model.  It is obvious that there was a lot of hand-fitting and tuning involved in manufacturing this shotgun.  The action locks up perfectly tight, and all of the controls are in like-new perfect working order.  This 1st year gun should still function just as well today as the day it left the factory over 71 years ago.  If you are a serious Remington collector here is the rare chance to get one of the first 870 Wingmasters ever made, in excellent condition to boot.
