Description:
This offering is for a near mint, apparently unissued Smith Corona Model 03a3 in superb original condition. The 03a3 is, of course, a modernized and simplified developement of the 1903 Springfield, and was used as a marksman's squad rifle and a supplemental shoulder arm issued to troops in reserve or rear area assignments during WWII.This beautiful example is NOT A REBUILD and is guarranteed to be exactly as pictured and described. It comes with a beautiful SM Co 1944, flat-buckle sling and an excellent cond. WWII production butt kit. The bore is mirror bright and sharp as a tack. There is a nice cosmoline patina on the parkerized metal surfaces and all the typically blued parts are as they should be. The fully cartouched stock and handguard appear to be unsanded. There is also an Ogden Arsenal storage facility cartouche along with only minimal handling marks on the wood. The following inspector stamps that appear on correct, original SC examples are as listed and shown in the pics: There is a "G" on the left-hand anterior surface of the bolt shroud, an "X" on the top of the root of the bolt handle and a "1" on the bottom, an "S" on the the lower side facet of the extractor, along with the appropriate SC markings on the barrel near the muzzle. There are NO Remington or sub-contractor inspector makings evident anywhere on this rifle. I would describe this offering as being an exceptional addition to any advanced US Military collection.
