Description:
SOLD With a serial #9057, chambering the 8mm Lebel, with a 17 1/2'' barrel, 1917-dated MAC barrel with a very good bore with scattered light frosting and evident rifling. The metal surfaces have a gunmetal gray patina with light oxidation staining on the triggerguard and barrel bands, hints of oxidation staining on the barrel and receiver, remnants of blue in the protected areas, and scattered light handling marks. The European hardwood stock is in about very good condition with an about 1 1/2'' crack in the handguard, a factory repair to the handguard, scattered light dings and handling marks, and an added glossy finish. An illegible serial number is stamped on the left side of the buttstock by the steel buttplate, ''EH'' is scratched on the left side below the action, and ''R.M'' marked upside down on the right side of the forend. The left side of the receiver is clearly marked ''Chatellerault'' in script next to ''MLE 1892 MD'', the top of the receiver ring is ''N'' marked, the bolt is numbered to a different carbine, and the barrel is neatly import marked. The rifle retains the standard post-1915 open sights, and appears to function well mechanically. A original French carbine from the first world war, and used through WWII and later in French Colonies by the Foreign Legion.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
