Description:
"

This Model 1836 flintlock pistol was made by Robert Johnson in Middletown, CT, in 1840. Johnson manufactured approx. 18,000 between 1836 and 1844. The 8.5"" round 54 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fine bore. It is marked U S. over JH over an indistinct P at the breech. The left barrel flat has a small H sub-inspection stamp. All the metal is polished bright. The lock is marked U.S. over R. JOHNSON over MIDDn CONN over 1840. The stock is fine with sharp edges, no cracks or chips, two strong inspector's cartouches on the left flat, and light use. The action functions correctly. The Model 1836 is the last of the U.S. flintlock martial pistols. They were used in the Mexican and Civil Wars and are a must for any martial pistol, Mexican War, or Civil War collection.
