Description:
SOLD A very fine 18th century English Sea Service flintlock long barrel pistol of about .67 cal, 12'' round barrel with an oxidized bore. This pistol , barrel and lock having mostly toned to a mottled gray and dark brown patina showing some old light pitting and a few small vise marks along the barrel. The cock shows some areas of moderate pitting and there are some dings along the edges of the lockplate hardware. The breech shows a ''(Star) / AI'' and a pair of London proof marks, and the lockplate shows ''I / WILLIAMS''. The convex lockplatehas an unbridled early frizzen. The brass stock furniture i with single ramrod thimble, long tang triggerguard, buttcap and a serpentine sideplate, all toned to a mild ocher patina. The walnut stock shows wear and minor repairs throughout, not noricable, and rates very good showing areas shy of the upper tang and some scattered dings. A simple brass-tipped ramrod is present and the lock is functional. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
