Description:
This Winchester 1886, serial number 53802, was built in 1891. It is an antique. It's pretty rough on the outside, ridden hard and put up wet as they say. That being said, it has a tight action and an excellent bright clean bore! The magazine tube was shortened at some time, presumably long, long ago, as the tube finish matches the barrel, or perhaps this is the original tube, and it was cut down. This may be connected to the appearance of the outside of the barrel at the muzzle and around the front sight. Perhaps the tube was damaged. The wood, though worn, appears to be solid, as I see no cracks on either the stock or the fore end, and both feel and sound solid. It appears to be shootable, but I'm not putting my shoulder into that crescent steel buttplate and pulling the trigger on a 45-90! There are spots of old rust and pitting here and there, mostly on the barrel. Screws for the most part are in good shape and not terribly buggered as I half expected them to be and they often are on guns this old. The rifle has a pretty good trigger as well. It has a 26" barrel, is about 44" long to the center of the buttplate and weighs 9 lbs 5oz. I think the gun is fairly priced and might be a good candidate for restoration. $75 shipping to the lower 48, 3% surcharge for using a CC.
