The obverse side has, from the hilt, an engraved 2.25"" semicircular double line arc with sun bursts inside, approx. 2"" of flower motif engraving, a .75"" pineapple, a 1.25"" nearly circular double line oval with small circles between the lines with fouled anchor within, and 2.5"" of flower motif ending in a fleur de lis type flower. The reverse side has the same 2.25"" semicircular double line arc, a 2.75"" flag and shield motif engraving, a 1.25"" nearly circular oval with a cornucopia within, and approx. 2.75"" of flower motif ending in leaves. The 4.5"" brass recurved cross guard features center rain guards with grotesque lion heads. The 3 5/8"" round turned bone handle has an approx. 5/8"" circular brass termination at the hilt and an approx. 1"" pillow pommel. The first approx. 3/8"" of the pillow pommel is turned bone followed by a brass cap with the same grotesque lion head at the top. The brass mounted scabbard is very good with intact leather which has a few areas of flaking. This is a great example of an early British Naval dirk. Don't miss it! SOLD |
