Description:
Serial #37384, .450 CF, 5" octagon barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some freckling within the grooves.  This is a very handsome revolver that retains 97-98% of the original bright blue finish on the barrel and sideplate, with the balance of the frame having traces of bright blue on a predominantly dark, pewter gray patina.  The cylinder, meanwhile, has muted color case-hardening still visible.  The frame has the usual Tranter "football" marking on the left side, and "F. T. BAKER 88 FLEET ST. LONDON" on the barrel rib.  The finely checkered walnut grip has scattered small handling marks and blemishes, with sharp checkering points, and some original color case-hardening remaining on the domed butt-cap.  The action lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism is fully functional.  The revolver is housed in a fitted English case with a faded green baize lining and nearly intact retailer's label: "FRANCIS FURLONG / Gun and Pistol Maker / KING STREET, SAFFRON WALSEN / New & Second-hand Breech-loaders / ALWAYS IN STOCK" as well as additional material regarding new cricket bats.  This is a fabulous Tranter cartridge revolver, in excellent condition, and in a period retailer-marked case.  Antique
