Description:
General Specs: Lefever, Year 1895, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 1oz, Chokes F/F, LOP 14 5/16", DAH 3", DAC Front 1 3/4", Rear 1 15/16'
Serial Number: 22457

Most who pursue Classic American Double shotguns are aware that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced some very elegant shotguns.  The first of the prominent American double gun manufacturers to cease operations, Lefever produced relatively few fine doubles; in the range of 60.000 guns.  Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes there were very few higher grade Lefevers produced.  To find a nice original gun like this early style EE Grade, sn22457 made in 1895, with fine Damascus steel barrels is the needle in the haystack.  The 30” barrels retain 98% Damascus pattern, are choked F/F, ring like chimes with tight ribs, 2 5/8” chambers, bores are very good, with a minimum barrel wall thickness of 33 thousandth right barrel, 27 thou left barrel.  The receiver has exceptional game scene/scroll engraving that is certainly executed by Jacob Glahn.  Glahn was a premier American engraver whose work is highly sought after by collectors.  Look at the dog on the right sideplate and the dog’s head on the trigger guard bow, as they are classic Glahn boxy headed dogs.  The scroll is exceptional, the dogs and woodcock have minute detail, and even the border work and the forend fastener escutcheon catch the eye.  Retaining 90% fading factory case color, perfect screws, original wood and strong checkering, it is in remarkable condition and a rare find in today’s marketplace.  The buttstock is a factory special order Monte Carlo style stock made from finely figured French walnut and is definitively factory original.  The wood-to-metal fit is superb, and the checkering is near perfect. This is a collectable condition investment that is a joy to carry and shoot as well, weighing just 7lbs. 1oz. with its 30” barrels.  THIS IS A VERY LIGHT 12GA. UPLAND GUN, READY TO SHOOT WITH ANY OF THE RST SHOTGUN SHELLS AVAILABLE AT RSTSHELLS. We can change the chokes to your liking within 5 days of purchase.  This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the action having been stripped to its smallest part, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, each part inspected for integrity and function, properly lubricated and reassembled.  The gun is mechanically excellent plus.  What a rare and gorgeous vintage American double ready for field or sporting clays.  You will not see one like this again, so don’t hesitate or she will be gone!  Thanks for looking.
