Description:
"

Richardson & Overman of Philadelphia, PA, manufactured 17,728 Gallager carbines for the Union during the Civil War. The majority, like this one, were 50 caliber percussion breechloaders with the last 5,000 being chambered for the 56-52 Spencer cartridge. The 22.25"" round barrel has a very good bore with bright strong rifling and erosion toward the chamber. All the metal has a smooth bright gray-brown patina. The lock plate id marked MANUFACTd BY over RICHARDSON & OVERMAN over PHILADA over the serial number, 10332 with GALLAGER'S PATENT over JULY 17TH 1860 toward the tail. The stock is good with no cracks or chips, moderate issue wear, and the initials W.M.H. (or HWM?) on the upper right rear butt. The spare nipple is in the patch box. The sling bar and ring are present. The action functions correctly. The Gallager carbine is a must for any Civil War collection.
