RARE Antique MASSACHUSETTS ARMS Co. MAYNARD PRIMED Percussion Pocket Revolver
AMERICAN CIVIL WAR Era; 1 of Only 3,000 Manufactured!
Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. Maynard Primed Percussion Pocket Revolver, manufactured circa 1851-60 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Much like the single shot variety, these came equipped in .31 caliber with either a 2-1/2” or 3-1/2” round barrel and a Maynard Tape Primer. The barrels were marked “Mass. Arms Co/Chicopee Falls” and the primer door marked “Maynard’s Patent Sept. 22, 1845”. They came blued and case hardened with walnut grips. With only 3,000 total produced, this little revolver is very sought after and would be a great addition to your American Civil War collection!
The action is strong. The cylinder must be manually indexed by pressing on a button just in front of the trigger. This releases the cylinder and allows it to be spun to the next chamber. Lightly engraved lock, and frame, with remnants of etchings on the cylinder. There is a very clear, deeply marked federal eagle on the Maynard tape primer door. The bore is in good shape with slight pitting at the muzzle. The keeper for the barrel latch is chipped so the latch is not locked in. The grip is firm with expected wear from age. A rare revolver that tried to build on the Colt design.
