The octagon barrel is about 39” long and is a plum brown patina with overall light oxidation and some pitting showing numerous punched half-circle decorations at muzzle and breech. There is a simple brass front sight and grooved style rear. The snaphaunce lock is rather long, about 6 1/2” in length with a very long chiseled mainspring with chiseling on the jaws of the cock and the frizzen. This style has been found in southern Russia/Azerbaijan Caucasus Mountains region. There is a simple sheet iron triggerguard and trigger (the trigger drags within the guard), all of the screws seem to protrude quite a bit through the lockplate and tang of barrel. The southern Asia Minor hardwood stock is full-length and rates about very good showing much of what is likely original varnish, light dings and handling marks, drying cracks, more prominent at the butt. There is carved open foliate decoration on the left stock flat, to the rear of the tang and a bit to the rear of the lockplate. There is an antique ramrod present and the lockplate does not function mechanically, as the hammer does not catch on the sear , but all the parts appear to be present.. While perhaps purposed as an actual “usable” rifle (as the bore was indeed rifled), the construction is rather handmade and shows signs of heay use. Guns from this region may have been used over 100 years as weapons were scarce. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
