Western receiver sight, ramp front.
Mfg. 1898, (sporterization date and maker unknown).
Excellent overall condition as sporterized and refinished.
Bore is bright with strong rifling.
Barrel has been cut to 22" with sights removed and holes plugged and a nice ramp front sight installed. A Western receiver sight (pre-Redfield) has been installed. Metal is in excellent overall condition with minor handling marks and rub spots, the action is smooth and appears to function flawlessly.
Stock is the original military stock that has been cut down and wood added to raise the comb and create a pistol grip. A black plastic grip cap and fore end tip have been installed. A new Pachmayr White Line pad has recently been installed. The workmanship on the stock is excellent, the addition of the wood comb and grip are barely noticible. The overall condition of the wood is excellent with a few handling marks and nicks.
This is a beautiful example of an early surplus sporter. While not fancy, the rifle has clean lines and a sleek feel.
If you are a fan of vintage hunting rifles this old girl may be calling for you to take her out after a buck.
