Description:
I believe this gun was one of a group of about 300 that was sold to Whitney Arms Company on order from Hartley & Graham in about 1883. They were converted into sporting rifles and used for the buffalo trade. This is the best of one of those rifles I have seen. It has a 30 inch octagon barrel, original front sight and Lawrence folding ladder rear sight. One piece walnut stock with a nicely checkered forearm and wrist. Frame is case hardened as is the breech bolt. Lock plate is also case hardened. Breech bolt is marked Model 1873 US. Buttplate is case hardened with US marking as well. This gun is in fantastic shape with most all barrel blue and bright case colors. Trigger guard has faded some. It has a bone inlay on the forend cap. Wood retains most original varnish with a few light dings.
