Description:
This is a particularly beautiful and all-original Remington Model 700 BDL Varmint Special rifle in .22-250 Remington caliber which is fit with a period Charles Daly 3x9-40 Scope in Redfield bases and rings.  This Remington was built in Feb. of 1975 and has an exceptionally beautiful factory stock with lots of figure and stripe.  It is in excellent original condition inside and out, and has obviously been cared-for and used very little over the years.  The Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special is one of the more sought-after Model 700 variations by shooters and collectors alike due to it's lower production numbers and reputation for superb accuracy right from the factory.  The Varmint Special came with all of the normal 700 BDL features like a high-gloss blue finish, a factory drilled and tapped receiver, a polished engine-turned bolt body, a hinged internal box magazine floorplate, and a Monte Carlo-style checkered American Walnut stock with a gloss finish, but added a tapered heavy 24" inch "Varmint" profile barrel factory drilled and tapped for target blocks. These Varmint Special rifles were almost all short-action guns and chambered in the flat-shooting high-velocity varmint calibers like .222 Remington, .223 Remington, .22-250 Remington, .243 Winchester, and 6mm Remington.  The only long-action 700 BDL Varmint Special made was chambered in .25-06 caliber.  As mentioned before, this particular example is in .22-250 Remington and is in great all-original condition, never altered or "improved" in any way since leaving the factory.  The factory gloss-blue finish on this rifle is bright and beautiful, rating 96 to 97% with deductions for some very minor handling/storage marks.  There is no visible actual mechanical wear or thinning of the blue finish to speak of.  All of the factory stampings/markings are crisp and clean, and the machine-turned bolt body is bright, clean, and free from any staining or wear stripes .  The anodized black finish on the triggerguard and floorplate is also very attractive and in great shape, showing just a few scattered tiny handling/storage marks and a little finish damage around the rear action screw hole.  The bore in this Varmint Special is superb, mirror-bright and clean.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel and there is no pitting or visible erosion.  The original stock on this Remington is in excellent condition overall.  The wood is free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/dings.  The only deductions come from some scattered minor handling marks, none of which detract from the handsome looks of this rifle.  The checkered panels on the forearm and pistol grip are still crisp and clean, and all of the original factory stock hardware is intact and in great shape including the spacers and black pistol grip cap and factory-installed Remington-branded recoil plate.  The factory gloss finish is still fully intact, bright, and crystal-clear.  The factory installed sling swivel studs are also still intact, showing just some minor finish wear.  The action on this 700 BDL Varmint Special is extremely smooth, slick, and precise.  The bolt to barrel lock-up is smooth and perfectly tight with no slop or wiggle.  All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and the factory tuned trigger is superb.  This rifle should shoot and function just like new.  This Remington has been fit with a period Charles Daly 3-9x40 scope on gloss blue Redfield bases and 1" inch rings. The scope is in perfect working order and features a gloss black finish, a duplex style reticle, a rear power adjusting ring, and focus adjustable eyepiece.  The scope shows some minor handling marks on the exterior but has crystal clear glass and perfectly-functional windage and elevation adjustments.  We have no doubt that should the new owner choose to keep it that it will hold zero as it was designed to do.  If you have been looking for a collector-quality 700 BDL Varmint Special here is your chance to get an excellent all-original and VERY lightly used example made in 1975 during a time when Remington was at it's best.
