Description:
FREE SHIPPING! Scarce Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine with the error date barrel in caliber 30WCF aka 30-30  Winchester. This one is serial number 374351, made 1907 by the published Madis serial number records and of the 15 error date barreled guns I've owned, it is the latest serial number, most falling between 330,000 and 360,000. It has a special order 3 leaf rear express sight, otherwise is a standard SRC having a 20" round barrel with post front sight, ladder style rear sight marked 0 to 20, walnut stocks (slightly unusual as most carbines in this serial range had gumwood stocks due to the scarcity of walnut), carbine butt, long fore end wood, plain trigger, saddle ring that screws into the left side of the frame, blued and case hardened finish. The error date barrels fall into a narrow serial range of 1906-1907 production and reads "August 14, 1894" instead of the correct "August 21, 1894", which was caused by the die maker mixing the patent dates of the Models 1892 (October 14, 1884) and the 1894. Approximately 70 of these specimens are known at this time, 5 being extra lightweight rifles and the other 65 being carbines, most being found in caliber 30 WCF but I have owned at least 1 of every caliber Model 1894 with this factory anamoly. This is the last of my batch of these that will be sold so don't miss out!

CONDITION: All metal surfaces have turned a mix of light patina and gray. Traces of case colors remain on the hammer. Nothing has been cleaned, sanded, refinished or altered. Butt plate is a little crusty and should clean up if done carefully. Butt stock shows some wear near top of butt plate and a tight hairline split coming off the upper tang (about 2" long), otherwise just light scratches from use, thankfully no extra holes and never cleaned, sanded or refinished. Action functions as it should, including the half cock safety. Bore is a 6 of 10 and should clean better - sharp rifling with some light frost and some darkness in the grooves. Should shoot just fine upon examination by a competent gunsmith. Floor plate screw is missing and mag tube cap screw is an oversize replacement. Typical of the 3 leaf rear sights, the middle leaf is missing the right ear, having broken off from improper use. Shows the typical harder use of the carbines as they were working guns. Grades NRA Modern Good and a scarce factory anamoly carbine.
