Description:
This is a beautiful all-original factory Nickel-plated Colt Trooper Mk.III revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 8" inch barrel.  This handsome revolver was built in 1980 and is in superb condition inside and out.  The Colt Trooper Mk.III was introduced in 1969 as an improved version of the original Trooper, incorporating a redesigned lockwork that had a faster lock-time but required less hand-fitting than it's predecessor.  The Trooper Mk.III was offered in .22LR, .22 Magnum, .38 Special, or .357 Magnum, and was offered in a 4", 6", or 8" inch solid rib barrel.  This model came with factory adjustable target-style sights, a blued smooth target trigger, a case-colored target hammer, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, checkered Walnut target grips, and was offered in a high-polish gloss blue or nickel-plated finish.  The Trooper Mk.III proved to be an excellent revolver in any of the calibers, finishes, or barrel lengths.  They were very well made and finished, extremely reliable, and superbly accurate.  This particular example is serial number Y25851, manufactured well before any of the labor strikes happened at Colt which hurt the quality of guns leaving the factory.  As mentioned earlier, this Trooper Mk.III is in excellent condition inside and out, and has obviously lived a VERY easy life.  The factory nickel plated finish is still mirror-bright and beautiful rating 98%, showing only an extremely faint drag-line around the cylinder and some scattered tiny handling/storage marks.  There is no flaking or adhesion problems with the nickel finish, and there is no pitting anywhere on the gun.  The factory case colors on the hammer are in superb condition, showing nice and bright color all over and rating 99% plus.  The factory blue finish on the trigger, rear sight, and front sight blade is also like-new, rating 99%.  All of the factory markings on this Colt are crisp and clean, and all of the screws in the gun have nice clean slots.  The bore in the 8" inch barrel is mirror-bright and perfect, showing zero imperfections or erosion.  The rifling is still razor-sharp and clean from the forcing cone to the crown of the muzzle.  The six chambers in the cylinder are just as clean as the barrel, free from any damage or imperfections.  The rear star on the cylinder looks like-new and is free from any visible wear, and the front face of the cylinder is bright and clean, showing just a trace of a flash halo around each chamber.  The factory grips on this Trooper Mk.III are in superb condition overall.  Both grips are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/dings, and the checkering is still crisp and clean.  The only deduction we can see on the grips are a small spot of marring on the bottom rear of the left grip.  This can be seen in the close-up picture #18 of the butt of the grips.  Both grip panels are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame with no wiggle, and both sides have perfect gold-finished Rampant Colt medallions.  The action on this Colt Trooper Mk.III is as smooth and slick as they come, and it is in perfect time no matter how the gun is operated.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, including the adjustable rear sight.  We have no doubt that this Trooper would function just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left Colt's factory 41 years ago.  If you have been looking for an investment-quality nickel-plated .22 Long Rifle Trooper Mk.III for your collection, this 8" inch 1980-production example would be a great choice.
