Description:
Made in 1941, this scarce Skeet Special Grade 12ga gun made on a Featherweight frame with 28" London Steel barrels. Gun made with beavertail forend, Hunter One Single Selective Trigger, Auto ejectors, capped pistol grip buttstock with what appears to be the original Hawkins Brand pad. The gun is nicely engraved in Skeet Special pattern, tops of right barrel tube marked "Skeet Special" as seen in the photos. This gun is clearly marked "USA-F" on the bottom of the barrel tubes. A small batch of these guns were made for training purposes for the Air Force. Mostly these are found in Field Grade with a few in Ideal. This is the only USAF marked L.C. Smith Skeet Special I have ever encountered.
This gun remains in near mint professionally restored condition. Barrels retain virtually all of a professional rust blue which is a near duplicate of the factory blue. Case colors rate near 100% as restored. Stocks are sound and retain nearly all of a professionally restored finish never having been sanded or taken down in any way as fit and finish remains tight and correct. Bores are brilliant and shiny and mechanics are crisp throughout.
