Description:
Oginally a muzzle loading French musket later converted 10 ga, with 34 3/8" barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel and lockplate are an oxidized brown patina showing some overall active oxidation staining while the breechblock assembly is constructed of brass having toned to a nice ocher patina showing some scattered light dings.these brass guns were the first conversions and sold to European stettlers  in Africa, and also some mad their way to Utah with the Mormans.  The breechblock shows a small Belgian proof and is numbered "1043". The extractor is not spring-loaded and the firing pin appears to be a hastily made replacement and is loose. The walnut stock rates fair showing a number of lengthy thin cracks scattered about, most noticeable along the tip and edges, overall light dings and darkening from the years.Often found with a hole drilled in the right side of the stock when a Catholic preist added a drop of Holy water and then plugged with a wooden plug, now the hole has a lead bullet pushed in. The barrel is somewhat loose as it is secured only by a wooden peg in lieu of a proper wedge and there is a circular hole in the right side butt partially filled in with some lead. Half cock does not hold but the lock seems to function well mechanically at full.  A very colorful peice of 19th century history when an excess of muzzzle loaders were converted to cartridge weapons. Not sure how safe it would be to shoot, even with black powder. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith  before  shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost.   We don’t have a web  site .I prefer money orders or a check.  Item ships when funds come in. I try to keep guns  affordable, which means I make less money than most dealers. You won’t get altitude sickness, or nose bleed, with my prices! I consistently have the best selection of  older guns If you attempt to buy,  you must still contact us for details . Best to email to buy. Sometimes a local person can stop buy and purchase before the gun is removed.  Sometimes not home to get calls. Some guns are required shipment to a gun dealer near you for a transfer to you when it arrives. Otherwise many older or black powder guns ship to your door. With the widest selection of older guns at great prices, We don’t have a store, and sell on the internet only.  I’m easy to get along with. Thank You
