EARLY MODEL 1885 HIGHWALL SPORTER IN .40-70 SS (SHARPS STRAIGHT) CALIBER, #11XXX, MADE 1887. This is a standard sporter with 30" #3 octagon barrel. The .40-70 SS was a fairly scarce caliber with only 1,428 made (this equates to 1.30% of production). This example has had the bore relined to the same .40-70 SS caliber and the bore is now perfect. The barrel blue has aged to a very thin blue/mostly brown finish with fine markings and original buckhorn rear sight with Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The receiver is mostly silver/gray and has very strong springs in the hammer and lever. The stock and forearm are fine with only normal handling marks and very tight wood to metal fit. Good frontier appearance.
