Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1914, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 12oz, Chokes Skeet/Full, LOP 14 5/8", DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 218201

Here we have an interesting L.C. Smith Ideal Grade, an early version built in 1914 with the pre-1913 type top tang (2-piece top tang), sn218201, built on the Regular weight frame, with lots of factory condition on all the metal.  The gun was shipped with ejectors, the Hunter One Trigger single selective trigger, 28” barrels choked Skeet/Full, with mirror bores, tight ribs, and the barrels still tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun.  The barrels have 2 ¾” chambers and lengthened forcing cones (1 ½” tapers which promotes better patterns and less felt recoil on shooter and stock) making it ready for modern loads and lots of rounds at the sporting clays course or in the field flushing tough birds like pheasants.  Today’s gunners seeking a fine vintage American side x side are no longer purist collectors, but rather shooters that intend to utilize their new doublegun in the field and at the gun club competing in the many vintage shoots that have sprouted up all across the country.  These shooters want a gun that will stand up to constant use and provide trouble-free shooting pleasure for decades to come.  This gun, being built on a Regular weight frame and weighing in at 7 3/4lbs., was made for this kind of use.  Recently restocked with a gorgeous piece of English walnut to a long length of pull (14” LOP to the END OF THE WOOD FROM A MID-POSITION SST… WE CAN ADD A 1” LONG PAD AND GET HER TO 15” LOP) and modern stock dimensions, this gun does not have the oil-soaked, delicate wood that many of the Featherweight framed guns have today.  The workmanship by the gunstocker is superb, with superb wood-to-metal fit both outside where you can see it and inside where it is most important.  This gun will stand up to the repetitive shooting and make you proud doing it.  Balance just on the hinge pin she handles more lively than the weight belies.  This is a great Elsie!  ALL METAL FINISHES ARE FACTORY ORIGINAL, SHOWING THE GUN SAW LITTLE USE OVER THE LAST 107 YEARS.  The mechanics are excellent with well timed ejectors and a single-selective trigger that works just the way it should.   This gun is priced affordably and should not last long, so if you have been looking for a heavier 12ga. that will absorb recoil as you put her through her paces, this is your gun.  Thanks for looking!
