Description:
Serial #388480, .32 WCF (.32-20), 26" octagon barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some darker freckling within the grooves about halfway down. This is a very handsome, Third Model rifle that was built in 1891 and retains about 50-60% of the original blue finish on the barrel that has mellowed to a freckled plum-brown patina along the balance, and silvered at the muzzle, as well as along the edges of the barrel facets. The magazine tube has a predominantly mellow plum-brown patina, but also has areas of pinprick pitting along the exposed portion. The frame has about 30-40% of the original bright blue remaining under even, plum-brown freckling, and the hammer retains traces of muted color case-hardening, while the lever is freckled brown. The cartridge lifter has tarnished to a pleasing dull ochre color. The walnut forend and buttstock are in very good-near fine condition with minor surface blemishes and handling marks visible throughout the original finish, but no cracks or chips. This is a splendid looking rifle that rates very good-fine condition overall, and would make an excellent addition to any collection. Antique
