SOLD An intriguing early Dutch export to the American colonies from about 1700 to 1720, Brought to the colonies by the British for their subjects to protect themselves from French and Indian warring parties coiming down the Hudson, or through New England. The British would never give a Brown Bess to their subjects, in fact if a non-British soldier was caught with a Brown Bess during the Rev. War, they were executed as a traitor where they stand! These very ealy flintlock all had a bananna shaped lock-plate, and the lock works well with the hammer pulled all the way back , with a strong mainspring. Comes with a tulip shaped ram-rod that was of this era, but could be a more recent replacement? The European walnut wood is strong with some age staining. A very difficult musket to find in any condition. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
