Description:
General Specs: Browning, Year 1961, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 5/16", DAH 2 5/16", DAC 1 5/8"
Serial Number: 22612

The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs.  Produced in plain-jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped.   Here we have the venerable Browning Superposed Grade 1 in 20ga. with hard-to-find field chokes.  Most of these guns are found with skeet chokes and are less desirable.  This gun has 26.5" barrels marked and choked IC/M, the perfect upland gun.  As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1966.  This 6lb. 5oz. gun, sn22612 built in 1961, is all factory original and still retains 98% factory finish on wood and metal…it is an untouched, factory original Browning Superposed Lightning! The stock has the original curved butt with factory butt plate intact measuring 14 ¼”" LOP.  The finish is factory original hand-rubbed varnish and there are only a few very light handling marks.  Most of us know that “Browning guys” love guns with pretty wood, and this gun came from the factory with much nicer wood figure than most you see, so is therefore a much more desirable Superposed than the ones with the usual plain-jane wood.  Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because Browning cured their stock wood in salt to speed the drying/aging process.  I still don’t know how they didn’t see that disaster coming!  Not all guns were affected, but the marketplace still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs, and some even with square knob pistol grips.  This is a great upland gun that is balanced perfectly 1/8” ahead of the hinge pin and light enough to carry all day afield.  The value of these earlier Superposed guns continues to climb, so you can invest in this gun and enjoy its use as it gains value.  When you combine the beautiful wood figure, high condition, and desirable field chokes the value of this gun becomes readily apparent.  The gun comes in the vintage Browning hard case that has a $300 value.  Priced to sell so don’t let this one get away. Thanks for looking!
